Jumpstart Corps Members

Jumpstart is working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Students work with a team of their peers to implement an early literacy curriculum in Oakland twice a week. Jumpstart students also participate in weekly trainings focused on early childhood education, leadership, and social justice.

MICAH Summer Fellowship

The MICAH Summer Fellowship allows current SMC and USD students the opportunity to cultivate personal and social responsibility through intentionally joining communities that are working to create positive social change. This is a living-learning fellowship that challenges participants to creatively examine and practice the program values: community, leadership, simplicity, social justice and spirituality.

BAY (Bay Area Youth) Collaborative

BAY Collaborative team members support academic achievement and social emotional development of middle and high school students engaged in the Teen Center at Alameda Point Collaborative. Team members implement enrichment activities, academic mentoring, and family engagement programming. Our program and approach is grounded in the following theoretical orientations: trauma informed care and practice, an asset based community development perspective, and restorative justice practices. Community Based Internship Program (CBI) 

The CBI is a one-semester experience where students are interns for 8-10 hours at Bay Area nonprofits, community organizations, in the public service sector, and on campus departments that promote social justice efforts. Students will strengthen skills and knowledge for working in the nonprofit and public service sector, explore vocations through the lens of personal and professional development, and review and discuss academic content related to public service and the specific organizations' work.
